Man arrested after siege in Melbourne suburb

Police have arrested a 26-year-old man following a siege in the Melbourne suburn of Epping.

A 26-year-old man who was allegedly armed with a handgun and holding police at bay at a Melbourne suburban home has been arrested.

Victoria Police told SBS World News officers tried to arrest the man in the suburb of Epping as part of an ongoing criminal investigation on Friday afternoon.

They started negotiating with the man before he “returned back inside”, a spokesman said.

“There were a number of other people in the house at the time who initially refused to leave and it is alleged that the man had a handgun,” police said in a statement.

Everyone inside the house eventually came out and the man was arrested.
