A man is being assessed in hospital after barricading himself inside a home in Sydney's west and allegedly making threats towards housing officers and police.

Police surrounded the home at Seven Hills after the 47-year-old man became aggressive when Department of Housing officers arrived to conduct repairs late on Thursday morning.

Following an operation involving police negotiators, the Tactical Operations Unit, paramedics and fireifghters, the man was arrested without incident on Thursday evening.

He was taken to hospital for further assessment.
