A man who was buried up to his neck in sand for over three hours on a Queensland beach has been rescued and taken to hospital.

The man, in his 20s, became trapped in a sandy crevice just north of the Reef World Aquarium at Hervey Bay just after 11 am.

Firefighters trained in confined-space rescues dug sand away from the front of the man's body until they could remove him safely from the hole. He has been taken to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.
