Man charged after police shooting near NSW-Victoria border

A man has been charged and will be extradited to Victoria following a police shooting in Barnwartha North last week.

Police have charged a man after a police shooting near the Victoria-NSW border last week, which shocked nearby communities.

Officers tried to pull over brothers, aged 19 and 30, near a camping ground at Barnawartha North about 3pm on Wednesday.

Counter-terror officers were trying to find one of the men to assess if he was a risk to the community.
When the pair were found, they rammed the police car and lunged at the officers with a knife and a tomahawk.

Both were shot by police and taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 30-year-old man on Monday faced court in Albury.

The man will be extradited to Victoria and he will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 19 June.

A 19-year-old man remains under guard in a Melbourne hospital.

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad are investigating the incident.

It's being over-sighted by detectives from Professional Standards Command, as per standard protocol when there is a police shooting.
