Man charged over alleged Sydney kidnap

A man will face court on Monday following the alleged kidnap and assault of a woman in Sydney's east.

A man has been charged over a domestic-related assault and kidnapping after a woman was allegedly gagged and tied to a chair for more than 24 hours.

A 20-year-old woman went to an Anzac Parade unit on Friday night to collect some property when police say she was assaulted, gagged and tied to a chair.

She told police she was locked in a room and held against her will until the early hours of Sunday morning before being able to escape and contact police.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Sunday afternoon.

During the search, police say they found an amount of prohibited drugs, which have been seized for scientific analysis.

The man was charged with detain person with intent to obtain advantage and cause actual bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, breach apprehended violence order and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear in Waverley Local Court on Monday.
