Man charged over anti-Islam attack in WA

A man has been charged over an alleged attack on a Muslim woman in Perth, where he swore at her, threw a bottle at her, and ran off with her headscarf.

A man will face court for allegedly throwing a beer bottle at a Muslim woman, swearing at her and running off with her headscarf in Perth's south.

The 33-year-old man has been charged with common assault over the attack which police say happened last Friday evening outside a shopping centre in Beeliar.

The victim, who does not want to be identified, said the man asked his children to wish her a Merry Christmas, and when she responded with 'you too, Merry Christmas', he called her a 'f****ing Muslim'.

She said she then confronted him, prompting him to throw a beer bottle at her which then shattered on her back.

They became engaged in a scuffle which caused her headscarf to come off, and the man allegedly ran off with it before dumping it near the shopping centre.

He will face Fremantle Magistrates Court on January 30.
