A man has been charged with murder after another man was allegedly shot dead during a siege on the NSW central coast.

Police arrested the 49-year-old man on Thursday after he barricaded himself inside a unit on Gertrude Street, Gosford, following reports of a shooting about 2pm (AEST).

He later surrendered to police and was taken in for questioning.

He's been charged with murder and gun-related offences.

The body of a 48-year-old man who police say was shot in the head was found in the unit's courtyard. Police also found a revolver.
