Man charged over Melbourne hit-run fatal

A man has been charged over a fatal crash in which he allegedly crashed with a motorcyclist then ran from the scene.

A man has been charged over a hit and run crash that killed a 21-year-old motorcyclist.

The 28-year-old Ballarat man was arrested about 10pm Saturday and charged with failing to stop after a collision, failing to render assistance after collision, failing to report a collision, driving while disqualified and driving an unregistered motor vehicle.

A 29-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car contacted police and was released without charge.

Police will allege the man was behind the wheel of a Holden sedan that crashed with a motorcycle on the Nepean Highway in Brighton East about 8pm Friday.

The motorcycle crashed into the back of the car, causing both vehicles to burst into flames, police say.

It will be further alleged the couple in the car ran away with their large dog, failing to check on the motorcyclist.

The Ballarat man was granted bail to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
