A man has appeared in a Melbourne court charged with the stabbing murder of another man in the city's southeast.

Ricky Gerrard, 20, is accused of killing 23-year-old Sadiq Husseini at Doveton on Thursday night.

Gerrard sported a mohawk in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday night, where his lawyer revealed he had multiple personality disorder, depression and anxiety.

It is not the man's first time in custody and he did not apply for bail.

Gerrard was arrested on Friday alongside an 18-year-old man, who was released pending further inquiries.
