Man charged over Qld motel blast

A man has been charged after a container filled with hydrochloric acid exploded at a north Queensland motel in the early hours of the morning.

A man has been charged after a container of hydrochloric acid exploded at a north Queensland motel.

Police discovered the blast site after being called to reports of a gunshot at the motel on the Bruce Highway, south of Bowen, early on Thursday morning.

A second suspected container of hydrochloric acid was also found during a search.

No one was injured in the explosion.

A 25-year-old Bowen man has been charged with the unlawful deposition of explosives and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He's due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on December 26.
