A man has been charged over seven of the 11 fires which started in Adelaide's south in the early hours of Thursday.

A shed and machinery were destroyed on a McLaren Flat property, while a blaze in the Onkaparinga Hills came within 50 metres of homes before being contained.

The first grass fire occurred around 12.50 am (CDT) at Seaford Rise, near the waste depot, and led to the closure of Bakewell Drive before it was put out.

Over the next three hours, emergency services were called to approximately 10 more fires in the suburbs of McLaren Flat, Christies Beach, Onkaparinga Hills, Noarlunga and Morphett Vale.

Police on Friday said a 23-year-old man from Morphett Vale has been charged in relation to seven fires.

He is due to appear in Christies Beach magistrates court on Friday.
