A man has been charged with accessing the restricted video of the execution of underworld figure Walid Ahmad at a Sydney shopping centre.

A 21-year-old man allegedly accessed the video, which was published by several media outlets on Friday, in the days after the daylight shooting at Bankstown Central on April 29.

It remains unclear whether the man sold the footage to anyone.

Police say he has been charged with accessing or modifying restricted data held in a computer and has been ordered to face Bankstown Local Court on June 22.

The video shows a figure dressed in black running to a group of people sitting outside the shopping centre.
