A Sydney man armed with a military-style weapon and pistol involved in a seven-hour stand-off with police has been charged.

The 47-year-old surrendered to police just after 7am on Friday after holding officers at bay overnight at a home in Devlin Street, Ashcroft.

He was taken to hospital to be assessed and later charged firearm offences and two charges of assaulting police.

The man was refused bail and is expected to face Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.
