A man has been charged over a vicious assault at a southwestern Sydney railway station that left a man unconscious.

It's alleged the 21-year-old verbally and physically assaulted his 53-year-old victim after they both got off a train at Leumeah Station early on Sunday.

The injured man was taken to hospital suffering a suspected leg fracture.

Police say the 21-year-old handed himself in to police on Monday morning.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to face Campbelltown Local Court next month over a reckless grievous bodily harm charge.
