Man charged over Sydney rampage

A man has been charged with 11 offences including assault, affray, destroying property and animal cruelty following an hour-long rampage through inner Sydney.

A Sydney man accused of assaulting three people, kicking a dog and damaging three vehicles in just under an hour has been charged with a string of offences by police.

Shortly after 5pm on Saturday, the 37-year-old allegedly threw drinks at a customer and stole food from a Waterloo fast food restaurant before throwing a bicycle at a car.

He then entered a pet store and hurled a bag of dog food at an employee before threatening her and two customers and kicking one of their dogs in the ribs.

The man moved on to Alexandria where he allegedly damaged a car and assaulted another man with a tree branch before setting a motorbike alight with the fire also destroying a parked car nearby.

Redfern duty officer, Inspector Matt Webb, described the acts as a "rampage" and said a lot of damage was caused in a short period of time, 7 News Sydney reported.

"It's concerning that the members of the public need to see this sort of thing. People are just out going about their everyday business and come across this male who was really on nothing more than a rampage," Inspector Webb said.

He said early indications were the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

According to witnesses, he assaulted a number of others, including a man believed to have been holding a child, and police are appealing for them to come forward.

Officers finally arrested the man at Eveleigh about 6pm. He was remanded in custody and expected to make a bail application before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
