A man has been charged over the murder of a man who disappeared from his South Australian home in 1998.
Major crime detectives arrested the 65-year-old man, from the Adelaide suburb of Seaton, on Tuesday over the murder of Dale McCauley, police say.
Mr McCauley was last seen at his Willunga home, south of Adelaide, in January 1998 and was reported missing by a concerned friend a month later. His body has never been found.
Police began reviewing the case late last year, searching Mr McCauley's home and a dam on a nearby property on November 25.
The charged man has been refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Mr McCauley's truck, passport and Akubra hat - which his friends said he would never leave home without - were found at his home after he went missing.
His disappearance was declared a major crime in May 1998.
Before disappearing, the 44-year-old had returned from Yuendumu, a remote Northern Territory Aboriginal settlement, where he ran an art centre.
An acquaintance from the settlement was staying with him when he went missing.
At the time of the fresh searches, police said they were looking for a car linked to the case, a 1982 red Holden Gemini, and urged a person who contacted detectives with information earlier that month to contact them again.
A $200,000 reward is in place for anyone who provides information to police leading to the arrest of those responsible for Mr McCauley's death.
Police have again urged anyone with information to come forward.
