A man has been charged over the alleged indecent assault of a boy at a cafe in southwestern Sydney.

Police say a nine-year-old boy and his family went to the cafe on Canley Vale Road, Canley Heights, about 1pm (AEDT) on Saturday.

A short time later, the boy was leaving the bathroom at the back of the venue when he was allegedly indecently assaulted by a man who had been seated outside.

The boy told his mother and they reported the incident to police at Cabramatta station.

Police say officers from Cabramatta Local Area Command attended a Cabramatta home about 11.30pm and arrested a 39-year-old man.

He was charged with aggravated indecent assault and granted strict conditional bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court on January 22.
