A man has been charged with murder after a concern for welfare call led to a young man being arrested and a woman's body being found in a central west NSW town.

Police were called to Union Street near the centre of Forbes just after 6am on Friday, where a 28-year-old man was arrested and taken to the police station for questioning.

A short time later, police found the body of a 59-year-old woman known to the man at an Underwood Street home, two streets over from where the man was arrested.

The man has been refused bail and is set to face Parkes Bail Court on Saturday charged with murder.
