A boatie has been rescued after clinging to the hull of a capsized boat for four hours.
Police say the man was picked up by rescue crews about 15km northwest of Murray Island at 2pm (AEST) on Monday.
The man's vessel capsized quickly and he was forced to dive underwater several times to try to retrieve the emergency beacon.
He eventually found it and set it off at about 11.20am, then clung to the upturned boat until help arrived.
The man, who was not injured, was being taken to Murray Island on a rescue boat, with his six-metre boat towed behind.
