A man has been found covered in blood on a street in Brisbane's inner city on Christmas Day.

A man has been found covered in blood on a street in Brisbane's inner city after an apparent Christmas Day stabbing.

A passer-by called emergency services just before noon (AEST) after seeing a bleeding man on Martin Street in Fortitude Valley.

Police followed a long trail of blood to the man, who was bleeding from the shoulder.

A police spokeswoman was unable to confirm reports the man had been stabbed.

Officers were still ascertaining how the man was injured, she said.
