Man critically injured in NSW plane crash

A plane crash near Port Macquarie Airport on NSW's mid-north coast has left a man critically injured and a woman in her 20s with possible serious injuries.

A male student pilot freed from a crashed plane on NSW's mid-north coast remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The 25-year-old broke limbs and his pelvis and a supervising pilot suffered possible internal injuries in the crash near Port Macquarie Airport about 8.30pm on Friday.

The student pilot needed assistance to get out of the wreck before he was flown to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital.

His supervising pilot, believed to be a woman aged in her mid-20s, was taken to a local hospital on Friday night before scans revealed possible internal injuries.

She is expected to be flown by Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Sydney's Liverpool Hospital on Saturday.
