A woman may have lay seriously injured at the scene of a fatal car crash in regional Victoria for a number of hours before being discovered.
Victoria Police say the male driver died when the pair's car hit a tree in Edi on Monday morning.
The alarm was raised about 7am but investigators believe the crash may have occurred "some hours prior" to that, with the female passenger subsequently taken to hospital with serious injuries.
