Three young siblings who went missing in South Australia have been found safe and well and a man has been detained, police say.

Ethan Lawson, 12, Jayden Lawson, 10, and Sienna Dodd, 6, disappeared on Wednesday night but have since been located and placed with "appropriate authorities", Superintendent Ian Parrot said on Friday.

"A man has been detained by police at this time for breaching his bail, but importantly the children are safe and well," he said.

Police have not identified the detained man but earlier said they believed the children were probably with their parents Dylan and Chantelle Lawson.

The children had been in "alternative care" when they were dropped off at an oval in Christies Beach for football training on Wednesday night.

Police launched an extensive search for the trio on Friday, who were initially thought to have been heading for their father's house at nearby Hackham West.
