A man in his 60s has died and another man in his 30s is in hospital after a boat they were in overturned in waters off Perth.

A man in his 60s has died after a boat he was in overturned in West Australian waters.

Two men were pulled from the water near Carnac Island, off Perth, about 10am on Tuesday.

A man in his 30s was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment but the other man was unresponsive and could not be saved.

Sergeant Rebecca O'Keeffe described it as a tragic accident but said it was lucky there was an emergency beacon on the boat to activate.

"While it looks like a perfect day for boating conditions, unfortunately there are still dangers out there," she told reporters.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
