A man has died after falling out of a golf buggy and hitting his head on the road at Hope Island in Queensland.

A 21-year-old man who hit his head on the road after falling out of a golf buggy on Queensland's Hope Island has died in hospital.

Police say the man fell out of the buggy at about 8.40pm on Monday on Bolsena Circuit and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where he died on Thursday afternoon.

Two other men in the buggy, both aged 20, were not injured.

The death takes Queensland's holiday road toll to four and the national toll to 22.
