Man dies after one-punch attack on Central Coast

A man has died after he was struck in the head by a single punch on the NSW Central Coast, with his alleged attacker refused bail in court.

A man has died after he was struck by a single punch that caused him to fall to the ground and hit his head on the NSW Central Coast.

The 30-year-old was punched in the head inside a licensed premises at The Entrance in the early hours of New Year's Day, NSW Police say.

He fell to the ground, hit his head on the concrete and lost consciousness.

He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition but died from his injuries on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, George Joseph Habkouk, 49, was refused bail at Wyong Local Court after being charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent and is due to face the same court again on January 8.

Habkouk's charge has now been upgraded to assault causing death, police say.
