A man has died in a glider plane crash in central NSW.

Emergency services were called to Piper's Airfield in Eglinton near Bathurst just after 1pm on Sunday after reports a powered glider had crashed and ignited a grassfire.

The 75-year-old male pilot died at the scene, police say.

The grassfire was contained by the NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is on its way to the crash site where it will begin its investigation.
