Man dies in highway collision

A man has died after colliding head-on with a ute that was trying to overtake a truck on the Great Eastern Highway in Western Australia.

Police say the Toyota Hilux ute was travelling east towards Southern Cross on Saturday night when it attempted to overtake a road train.

At the same time, a Holden Commodore, driven by a 58-year-old man from Northam, was travelling the other way and the two vehicles collided,

The Northam man died at the scene.

The two male occupants of the Hilux, a 25-year-old driver and 24-year-old passenger, received minor injuries.
