A man found lying on a northern NSW road with serious head injuries last month has died in a Sydney hospital.
Matthew Mitchell, 30, was located with the injuries at Graham Drive, Sandy Beach, late on a Saturday night in mid-August.
He was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital where he died on Thursday.
"While we have received some information from the community, the exact details of how Matthew came to be injured remain a mystery," Detective Acting Inspector Peter O'Reilly from Coffs Harbour police said.
"It is however clear that there are people in the local area who know how Matthew sustained his injuries."

Mr Mitchell's father Peter has asked for anyone with information to come forward.
"Our son has died and all we want to know is why," he said.
"This has been an incredibly difficult experience for our family to go through and all we want is some answers, so please if you know anything that could help, contact police," Mr Mitchell said.
