A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Melbourne man who failed to appear in court over an alleged racially motivated attack on a Melbourne train.

A man faces arrest after failing to turn up to court over an alleged racially motivated attack on a Melbourne train.

Broadmeadows Magistrate Robert Kumar issued an arrest warrant for 20-year-old Alec Dornan on Tuesday after he failed to face charges of assault over an incident in which three Muslim women were allegedly racially abused, and a man was allegedly assaulted when he came to their defence.

Dornan is charged with recklessly causing injury and assault on May 15, 2015.

The matter was adjourned to a fixed date.
