Dreamworld's popular log ride has been closed indefinitely after a near-drowning at the Gold Coast theme park.

A man swallowed water and suffered head cuts when he fell out of the log ride on Sunday afternoon.

He is recovering in hospital.

Dreamworld issued a statement on Monday promising a "full and thorough" investigation.

Workplace Health and Safety is also examining the incident.

The theme park confirmed the man was treated by its medical staff before paramedics arrived.

The log ride has been a popular attraction for 35 years.
