Man hands himself in after Melbourne crash

A man who allegedly left the scene of a Melbourne crash in which a 64-year-old woman was seriously injured, has handed himself in to police.

A man has handed himself in to police after a crash in Melbourne where his car flipped onto its roof and a woman in another vehicle was seriously injured.

The 42-year-old, from Flemington, went to a police station on Tuesday afternoon over the crash the previous evening on Mt Dandenong Road at Croydon after which the 64-year-old woman was hospitalised.

Witnesses said the man's car was travelling west when he lost control, skidded across the road, over the centre median strip and crashed into the woman's vehicle.

The man allegedly climbed from his overturned car and fled.

He is in custody being questioned by police.
