A man has emerged from the wreckage of his car and walked away without serious injury after the vehicle left a winding road and slid 30 metres down a north Sydney cliff.
NSW Ambulance Inspector Michael Magyary said paramedics expected a grisly scene after hearing reports a vehicle had dropped off the cliff.
"It was nothing short of miraculous to see the patient come out of this accident without serious injuries - he has been extremely lucky," Insp Magyary said in a statement.
The man in his 60s was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with facial injuries after his 4WD left the tarmac and slid down the side of a cliff on Parriwi Road in Mosman about 7.45am on Tuesday.
He reportedly freed himself from his wrecked vehicle perched precariously on the side of the cliff and climbed back up to the road through the scrub.
Police say the driver was travelling south on the winding cliff-top road when his car dropped down The Spit's seaside embankment. They are investigating whether the man suffered a medical condition.
The area has been cordoned off and a 100-tonne crane is on its way to retrieve the vehicle, which will need to be lifted over power lines, a Fire & Rescue spokesman told AAP.
