Police needed help to arrest a man after he punched a female officer in the face, spear tackled another man and fled over a fence in Sydney.

Back up had to be called to arrest a man who allegedly punched a female police officer in the face and spear-tackled another man following a domestic incident in Sydney.

According to NSW Police, a 35-year-old man punched a female police officer in the face twice and spear-tackled a member of the public who was helping with his arrest on Friday night.

Police then pepper sprayed the man who managed to jump over a fence and hide before, with the aid of back-up, he was found in a laundry room of a nearby home.

He was charged with a string of offences including reckless wounding and assaulting police.

The man is due to face Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
