A Melbourne man questioned by police over the death of his housemate has been released without charge but he has been remanded in custody over another matter.

Alex Freeburn, 26, was arrested on Saturday afternoon in regional Victoria after police called for him to hand himself in.

The body of his housemate, a 29-year-old woman, was found in a Kew townhouse on Tuesday afternoon.

It's believed her father had raised concerns about her welfare with police earlier that day.

Freeburn was arrested on Saturday afternoon near Warrnambool and released on Sunday after being interviewed by homicide detectives.
