A man became trapped under a car after its driver chased him down a central Queensland road and drove directly at him, police say.

Fire crews had to help free the man, who was taken to Bundaberg Base Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

Police are questioning a 31-year-old man over the incident, which happened at Pine Creek, near Bundaberg, on Friday night.

It's alleged the drama started when two groups of men, in separate vehicles, began arguing on Haylocks Road.

Police say a 31-year-old man drove into the second vehicle several times before he and others at the scene began fighting.
