A male suspect has reportedly been identified in an investigation into the murder of Alice Springs mum Karlie Jade Pearce-Stevenson and her young daughter.
Fairfax Media reports a man, who is serving a NSW prison sentence for unrelated offences, has been identified as a suspect in the murders of Karlie and her two-year-old girl Khandalyce Pearce-Stevenson.
Karlie's body was discovered in Belanglo State Forest in 2010 while her daughter's bones were found about 1200km away alongside a suitcase near Wynarka, in South Australia's southeast in July.
The reported breakthrough follows a deluge of calls to police after the victims' names were made public on Wednesday.
A NSW Police spokesman on Thursday night refused to confirm they had a suspect and said police were "keeping an open mind" to their inquiries.
Karlie was 20 when she was last seen driving near Coober Pedy with a then two-year-old Khandalyce in November 2008.
"(We are) appealing for people from across the country who may have seen this young mum and this little girl at any time in the last 10 years so we can piece together their movements," NSW POlice Detective Inspector Mick Willing told the Seven Network.
Landlords and operators of hotels, motels, and caravan and cabin parks are being urged to check their records for any sign of Karlie.
