A man has been tasered after allegedly threatening police with a metal fence post following a break-in at a Bega home in the southeast of NSW.

Police said the man had also threatened the occupant with the star picket.

Officers were called to the property shortly before 2.30am (AEDT) on Sunday.

"When police arrived, a man allegedly threatened them with a metal star picket on two occasions before police deployed a Taser and arrested him," police said in a statement.

They said the officers then searched the man and seized a knife.

The man was refused bail to appear at the Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday on charges including aggravated break, enter and steal, assaulting police, and having a knife in a public place.
