A man has wrestled a cow off a Queensland cattleman after it flung him onto railings and stomped on his ribs.

The unlucky victim was loading cattle into a truck near Rockhampton about 9am on Tuesday when the cow bowled him over and trampled him, RACQ Capricorn Rescue Helicopter says.

He was flung backward into a cattle railing, where he hit his head and was repeatedly trampled by the cow, a spokeswoman told AAP.

"He wasn't knocked out - but because the cow was stomping on him he wasn't able to get up until someone removed the beast," she says.

"He was trapped."
