Manhunt after woman stabbed dead in NSW

A woman has died after being stabbed at a home in Glendale in NSW's Lake Macquarie region, near Newcastle.

A manhunt is underway after a woman was stabbed to death in NSW's Lake Macquarie region.

Emergency services were called to the Glendale home before midday on Wednesday following reports a woman was injured.

They found the victim with "critical" stab wounds and rushed her to John Hunter Hospital where she died.

Detectives are now searching for Tafari Walton, aged in his early 20s with a dark complexion and with a long black ponytail, NSW Police said in a statement on Wednesday.

Walton is believed to be driving a white Mitsubishi Outlander with NSW registration AW67VV.
