A man remains on the run after a violent stabbing attack in Geelong.

A 36-year-old woman is in a stable condition in Geelong Hospital after she was stabbed in the back during an altercation at her Kilgour Street home at 12.35pm on Saturday.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers are searching for a 43-year-old man, who is known to the victim, after he fled the scene following the attack.

The Herald Sun reports three young children, all aged under five, were taken to the Geelong Police Station from the home.
