Margaret River Pro surf event on hold

World No.1 Owen Wright will have to wait a few more days before competing in the Margaret River Pro quarter-finals as organisers wait for better conditions.

The Margaret River Pro surf event has been called off until Thursday at the earliest as organisers wait for better conditions.

At least one Australian woman will make it through to the final after six-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore, Tyler Wright and Sally Fitzgibbons all made it through to the semis.

In the men's draw, Owen Wright and Jack Freestone are the only Australians left, and they'll battle it out in the quarter-finals when competition resumes.

A lay day was also again called on Tuesday, but organisers are confident there'll be some pumping conditions this week.

"What we are looking at for Saturday and Sunday looks way better than anything we are seeing today and tomorrow," WSL Deputy Commissioner Jessi Miley-Dyer said.
