Balmain rugby league legend Benny Elias says the strife-torn Wests Tigers need a strong leader to fix their woes and he would be happy to see former teammate Wayne Peace replace Marina Go as chair of the battling NRL club.
The Tigers were was pitched into turmoil on Monday after coach Jason Taylor was sacked only three rounds into the season.
It continued the series of tumultuous events that have engulfed the club in recent times.
Long-serving former captain Robbie Farah left the club after being dropped to reserve grade by Taylor last season before the Tigers were rocked in the early stages of the current campaign by betting allegations against back Tim Simona.
Go, who has a media background, was appointed Tigers chair in September 2014.
"We are paying for it, every second of it, and it's killing us," Elias said of Go's tenure on NRL 360 on Monday.
Former Balmain, NSW and Kangaroos hooker Elias, who has also served on the Tigers board, played most of his Balmain career alongside champion lock Pearce, who he believes would enjoy widespread support if he became the Tigers' chair..
Pearce, who coached Balmain, Wests Tigers and NSW, is serving on the code's independent commission.
Elias felt Pearce becoming chair would win the approval of other Tigers legends including Steve Roach and Paul Sironen.
'I think myself Blocker (Roach), Sirro, every Balmain, Wests Tigers, Western Suburbs and any rugby league lover would support that," Elias said.
The Tigers haven't made the finals since 2011 and have a 1-2 record this season.
