The Queensland Maroons have won the first State of Origin match 6-4 to take a one-nil series lead over the Blues.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM STATE OF ORIGIN I

6th minute: After being starved of the ball in the first few minutes, the Blues receive a piggyback downfield via a penalty however Josh Morris knocks it on from the tap.

15th: For most of the opening exchanges, the Queenslanders had the Blues pinned on their own line but surprisingly elected to take the two points via Johnathan Thurston when James Tamou was penalised on his own goal-line. NSW 0 QLD 2

17th: Debutant Blues fullback Matt Moylan comes up with a clanger when he lets the ball bounce and is trapped in-goal. However the Maroons can't make them pay when they knock it on.

25th: On the back of three repeat sets, the Blues finally crack the Queensland line with James Maloney putting his former Sydney Roosters teammate Boyd Cordner over. NSW 4 QLD 2

36th: NSW appear to have the ascendancy but Queensland run it on the last and find space for Dane Gagai to score on the right edge in the shadows of halftime. NSW 4 QLD 6
