Shaun Marsh admits his recent batting has been plagued by hesitation.
But the left-hander on Saturday rediscovered his form to help steer the Perth Scorchers to a home BBL semi-final.
Marsh notched up 57 from 34 deliveries at Bellerive Oval where Perth claimed a seven-wicket win and ended the Hobart Hurricanes' season.
"I've been hitting the ball well in the nets the last week or so and (coach) Justin Langer said to me 'just go out there and hit the ball well'," Marsh told reporters after play.
"I've probably been a bit hesitant the last couple of games, just trying to get myself in (form) but, today, I just had the mindset to go out there and hit the ball hard and it worked out well.
"I will continue to do that from now on."
After a string of underwhelming performances including single-digit totals from four of his past five innings, Marsh was shifted from opener on Saturday to bat at No.3.
He denied that being under the eye of selectors in the lead-up to the Indian Test squad announcement had added pressure on him to perform.
"Going into a semi-final now, I go in there with a bit more freedom to just get out there and hopefully get a few more runs again," Marsh said.
The Hurricanes batted first at Bellerive Oval and reached a miserly 6-134. Opener D'Arcy Short top-scored with 36.
Former Test paceman Mitchell Johnson spearheaded Perth's bowling attack, taking 2-15 from his four overs, while Tim Bresnan (2-20) was also handy.
The Scorchers hunted down the target with more than six overs to spare.
Marsh paired with opener Michael Klinger (29) for an 82-run partnership and was finally caught behind off a Stuart Broad (1-33) delivery.
Skipper Adam Voges (20no) and Ashton Turner (16) were Perth's unbeaten batsmen as Perth finished at 3-135.
The result cements the Scorchers' position among the top-two sides and confirms they will host a semi-final.
It's the end of the road for Hobart with skipper Tim Paine admitting his side were outplayed.
"We had high expectations we could get the job done ... but just didn't play well enough," he said.
