Canterbury have delivered their fans some much-needed good news, confirming the re-signing of forward Rhyse Martin for one more year at the Bulldogs.

A bright spot in an otherwise dour year at Belmore, there were concerns their salary cap position would prevent the club from keeping the up-and-coming star.

However chief executive Andrew Hill put those to bed on Monday, after the 25-year-old put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the club in 2019.

"Rhyse has been part of a new group of younger players that have made their NRL debuts this season and who will form the nucleus of our squad going forward," Hill said.

"His re-signing is another positive step in creating a balanced squad that can complement each other next season and take our club in the right direction.

"We are delighted to have him back on board."

Since debuting in round nine against Brisbane, the Papua New Guinea international has scored four tries in eight games and missed just one of 12 conversion kicks.

The back-rower claimed the unwanted record against Canberra a fortnight ago of scoring the highest amount of points in a losing team in premiership history - his 24-point haul symbolic of his rise in a team that has won just four games this year.

Martin is one of just four players to have been announced as re-signed from the Bulldogs' top 30 this year, while Moses Mbye and Aaron Woods have both left the club mid-season under salary cap stress and Josh Morris has signed with Cronulla for 2019.
