Publishing giant Marvel is to create its first-ever Chinese comic superhero.

The Disney-owned company behind Spiderman and Captain America and Chinese company NetEase have signed an agreement to jointly develop the first comic with a Chinese superhero, China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported on Sunday.

Marvel has also authorised NetEase to release 12 copies of its comic stories online in China, including Guardians of the Galaxy, The Amazing Spider-Man and Captain America.

Movies based on Marvel comics have earned over 8 billion yuan ($A1.55 billion) in China so far.
