Dimitri Mascarenhas will step down from his role as New Zealand bowling coach eight months into a two-year contract.
Former England international Mascarenhas announced on Friday he will quit the post following the tour by Australia in February to spend more time with his family.
The 38-year-old was appointed on an interim basis following the departure of Shane Bond to an Indian Premier League coaching contract.
A two-year contract was signed in June during their tour of England.
"It was such a great opportunity for me but I really need to spend more quality time with my family - they're my No.1 priority," Mascarenhas said in a statement.
"At first I thought I could balance the responsibilities but I no longer think that's feasible. In the future I hope I can re-visit this sort of role."
Mascarenhas' duties included involvement in New Zealand Cricket's coach education initiative and the high performance centre's winter and A squad training programs.
Black Caps head coach Mike Hesson says the former Otago Volts mentor will be missed.
"Dimi has brought a vibrancy to the group and is well liked by everyone. We're sorry to be losing him."
NZC will begin the process to replace him immediately.
