Mass murderer loses High Court bid

Roger Dean, who lit a fire at a Sydney nursing home and caused the deaths of 11 people, has lost a bid to appeal his life sentence in the High Court.

Nursing home mass murderer Roger Dean has lost his bid to challenge his life sentence in the High Court.

The former nurse, who caused the deaths of 11 people when he lit two fires at a Sydney nursing home on November 18, 2011, applied for leave to appeal his life sentence, which under NSW law means he will die in jail.

But the two judges, sitting in Sydney, refused to give him the go-ahead, concluding there would be no prospects that an appeal would be successful.
