Police have made a massive heroin seizure at a Sydney port, discovering 42kg of the drug stashed inside household furniture.

A Joint Organised Crime Group swooped on two Malaysian nationals in the early hours of Thursday morning, arresting and charging them with importing and attempting to possess the drugs.

The men, aged 30 and 34, are scheduled to appear in Central Local Court on Thursday.

They could face life imprisonment if found guilty.

The heroin, found within 145 packages inside a furniture shipment at Port Botany, has an estimated street value of $49 million.
